Every company decides differently. That is why the approval flow is built on the admin screen, not in code. A flow consists of steps and conditional transitions between them.

Building blocks

  • Step type: pre-check, review, decision, implementation, closure and so on.
  • Assignment rule: the unit owner, a specific role, a committee or the opener's manager.
  • Condition: route to another step by amount, category or a form field.
  • Fallback rule and delegation: where the work goes when the assignee is absent.

If the builder does not want the same person to open and approve a record, the system skips such a step and moves to the next authorised person.

Try it before going live

The “Try flow” screen shows, for a sample record, which steps the flow will pass through and who will be assigned at each. A wrongly built condition is caught here, before a real record arrives.

Every change to a flow is versioned; records already in progress continue on the version they started with.
